Our experience working with the Unusual Design team was short from extraordinary and very much pleased with the outcome. If we need additional services in the future and/or someone we know there is no doubt in our minds Unusual Designs is our number one choice. Anne, Don, Lisa, Scott and Brandon were kind. Lisa always made small talk with me on the phone and was sweet as pie. I couldn't be happier. Good customer service and product satisfaction is hard to come by now a days. I'm glad my research paid off and there are companies left with the old fashioned values.
Allow me to share why; I conducted an exhausting search for plantation shutters from licensed vendors to the product. I mainly found large corporations like Lowes licensed under the DPOR VA website but I finally found Unusual Designs there also. Pricing was comparable between the product and vendor quotes. I visited the Unusual Design display gallery in person after speaking to Anne and Lisa over the phone. The gallery was fun and welcoming. Even though I showed up right before closing without an appointment Don took a few minutes to help me and my 2 yr old daughter. He ensured I would get in touch with Anne the following day. From there it was smooth sailing. After a few emails/phone calls, Anne visited our home. Anne was honest, sincere, and carried multiple suitcases with samples of different options to ensure we were happy with the product selections. Anne kept us updated when the product shipped and arrived. The installation was scheduled within a week from product arrival. Installation day was a breeze. Scott and Brandon showed up on time, laid down a blanket in the work area and less than two hours they were done. They gaved us a demo, explained a few things, answered my questions and left the area cleaned as found. The wait was well worth it. We were concerned, our view would be obstructed and thanks to Anne recommendation to choose 3 1/2" louvers, we are glad we listened. I was excited to show them off, my expectations were met and beyond. Thank you Unsual Designs Team.

My wife and I purchased our retired home in Hilton Village. We had a great deal of remodeling completed. To help us with this process, we acquired the expertise of Unusual Designs. Ann, the owner of Unusual Designs was a lifesaver. Furthermore, her staff are professional and knowledgeable. My wife and I would highly recommend owner Ann and her team at Unusual Designs!

Unusual Designs, Inc. is exactly the designs that we contracted for, unusual and beautiful!! Ray and I moved into Colonial Heritage to a house with all white walls and hardwood floors. Moving from a beautiful home in Norfolk decorated with bright colors (reds, orange, and greens) I was not happy with my new home with just white walls (boring). I hired Anne Fitch and she transformed my home into a beautiful modern looking home. The painter she used was awesome and an expert. The window treatments are simple but gorgeous. She used wallpaper and paint throughout the house and also accent walls. Now my home has beige, light green, faux throughout the dining room, kitchen and bedroom. She also brought in lights and furniture to enhance our home as well as our hardwood floors with beautiful unusual rugs (My kitty Oreo loves). Her husband helps her with deliveries and is a very hard worker and has a great personality! The contractors she works with have worked with her for years. Anne was extremely efficient, wonderful to work with and has wonderful ideas. She is definitely a timely designer!! My advice to you looking for a designer: Hire Unusual Designs, Inc.
We stopped by Unusual Design on an impulse, after riding by at least daily. Needing/wanting new window coverings, we thought it would be interesting to see what was inside. We were greeted by Anne, we explained what we were looking for, and quickly impressed by her knowledge of products, her professionalism and willingness to listen. We scheduled a home visit, she brought samples as well as her knowledge and skill set as a decorator. We selected, and ordered! We are extremely pleased with the final outcome, and would highly recommend their services.

I recently purchased Hunter Douglas luminette privacy sheers from Unusual Designs. Anne, the owner, and her team (including the installation team) were easy to work with. She provided recommendations (which made me think) and was open to my suggestions. I vacillated between plantation shutters and luminettes. I had luminettes in the master bedroom when I lived in CA, and ultimately decided on them again when I relocated to VA. I love the look!

I absolutely have loved working with Unusual Designs! Ann and her team are great! They made choosing my new blinds a very easy process! From choosing, explaining and installing! Unusual Designs also has a fabulous showroom. From wallpaper selection, fabrics, furniture! I highly recommend them, and will use their services again!

Anne Fitch and her Unusual Designs team updated our great room and kitchen recently with new paint and three new window treatments. Anne chose a warm gray color and then suggested co-ordinating window blinds. She did an excellent job managing the project from estimating it to co-ordinating with the painter and installer. She always followed through on her promises and was always accessible. For our powder room update, she suggested a faux finish for both walls and ceiling. What was once a drab bathroom is now elegant! Ricardo, the painter, specializes in faux finishes, but he painted the great room and kitchen as well. He is an outstanding painter with a very good eye for color and style. He is meticulous in preparation, in application, and in cleanup. Brian, who installs the window treatments, is equally skilled. Not only are they efficient, they are easy to work with as well. I would recommend without reservation this team of professionals for any home decorating project.

Having worked with Anne on a kitchen project several years ago, I did not hesitate to seek her expertise again for a living room redesign. I am not well versed in design styles or terms, and Anne took time to listen closely in order to understand my goal for my living space. With my goal in mind, she guided me stepwise through the process of changing my old dark room into the brighter updated one I imagined. Anne provided carefully selected options for furniture arrangements, colors, fabrics and finishes. I was neither overwhelmed by too many choices nor underwhelmed from too few. She was patient with my indecisiveness and gave guidance when I asked, nudging me to consider new or bolder looks and expanding my “comfort zone”. I loved her suggestions. My finished room is beautiful, welcoming, and cozy- everything I wanted it to be. I could not have achieved such a look without Anne - a true design professional. I will definitely call on her for my next project.

My experience with Unusual Designs has been very exciting. Working with Ann Fitch has been amazing. She arrived at my house at the exact agreed-upon hour, listened to my wishes carefully, and planned within my budget. The finished designs exceeded my expectations. I will definitely use Unusual Designs services again.

Ann was wonderful to work with! She took time to explain the various options and price points. She allowed me to review swatches prior to placing the order to ensure I liked my choices. Anne was wonderful to work with! She helped me get out of my comfort zone while decorating two bathrooms. Window treatments and wallpaper took my bathrooms to the next level! I tend to make quick decisions and I appreciated her coaxing me to slow down and she was spot on with that advice! I highly recommend Unusual Design!!

I recently had a cornice board and sheers made from Unusual Designs. They are beautiful and changed the whole look of my den. I had curtains made from them before and they were also beautiful, but it was time for a total change. The work they do is awesome. You are not just a client, they truly help you with picking out stuff and giving you ideas. Anne sat with me for a long time going through numerous books until I found exactly what I was looking for. Then she came to my house with the books and we compared it to the other colors and items in my den.. She also helped me look on the computer for pictures to go with my new look. I would not have any other company do work for me. I am a customer for life because of the way she treats me. Also her receptionist, Lisa, is great. If you have a question she will try and help you , if she can’t then she will make sure Anne gets the message and gets right back to you. It is a total one shop shopping experience and you will never be disappointed.

The project was a kitchen renovation and Unusual Designs was very helpful in guiding me through the process, helping me pick out what was needed and referring me to local stores/vendors when needed. Most importantly, this project was done on a very tight timeframe. They promised they could do it, and they did! Highly competent and helpful people from owner to affiliated contractors. I recommend them without reservation.
